Edison's career as an inventor, began in Newark, New Jersey. One of his first few discoveries was, the automatic repeater and other forms of improved telegraphic devices. However, his biggest invention was the Phonogram in the year 1877. It came as such a huge surprise to most of the community that they had a nickname to him 'the Wizard of Menlo Park'.

Menlo was incidentally the place where Edison first set up his laboratory. It was this place that witnessed most of Edison's inventions. It was the first of its kind, set up in New jersey with the sole aim of producing innovations in technology. It was a full fledged place with people working and researching technology albeit under Edison's guidance.
