As a fuel Petrol has more power per unit injected into the engine than CNG. One must note that a Petrol engine is tuned - ECU, Throttle, Idling air - fuel mix and so on for just Petrol. Variation in Performance can be noted even in different grades / brands of Petrol. Hence use of CNG as a fuel will always be a compromise. One will need to alter gear shift patterns and shift up at a slightly higher RPM. TO AVOID GUMMING AND OTHER PROBLEMS DO RUN ON PETROL FOR AT LEAST A FEW KMS BEFORE SWITCHING TO CNG.
CNG is 130 octane fuel so it burns slower, To take advantage of octain, engine timing or compression have to be increased. Not easy to do if you also want to run on gasoline. Natural gas also is introduced into the engine as a gas rather than a liquid, thus it displaces approximately 7% of the available air coming into the engine. Effectively making the engine 7% smaller in cu.in. Displacement. The higher octane will make up some of the difference, but normally you will see an approximate 3-4% loss in horsepower unless modifications are made to the engine or timing.
There are lots of disadvantages of CNG engines, from lack of fueling stations to working efficiency, which make petrol engine much preferable. Upcoming car engines have left the CNG so behind because of following reasons:
- Small capacity of cylinder: Usually CNG cylinders posses cylinder of 10kg to 12kg that is not enough for a long drive. Whereas the fuel tank of a petrol engine has more capacity comparatively.
- High cost of maintenance: CNG engine requires more attention and caring in comparison to petrol. Its spark plug, air filter, CNG cartridges are required to be changed after a certain time period hence they turn out to be costlier.
- High cost of CNG Cars: A CNG engine requires extra components of fuel storage to install that’s why the cost of a car with such an engine become slight higher.
I have always been of the understanding that compressed natural gas increases a petrol engine's efficiency. It is much harder to transport and store but is also much more efficient cost wise when compared to petrol plus it is more environmentally friendly.
Ans: I m not agree with the above question because petrol consists more carbon as compared to CNG and it is more effected to engine rather tan CNG. But petrol is also better than CNG interms of providing more power to engine than CNG..
CNG is more economical than petrol but it is of less power. Petrol
is smooth, fastest and provides good result as compare to CNG. Petrol has more power than CNG and requires less maintenance.
