Satellites orbit within three different ranges (in km above the Earth's surface):
1.) Low Earth Orbit (LEO): 0-2000 km
2.) Medium Earth Orbit (MEO): 2000-35,786 km
3.) High Earth Orbit (HEO): Anything still in geocentric orbit above 35,786 km

Most of these satellites orbit within the exosphere. The exosphere comprises of two parts: The lower boundary of 250-500 km, and the upper boundary of 500-190,000 km. Some, however, orbit within the thermosphere, such as the International Space Station.
