Mount Pinatubo is located in the Philippines. It is an active volcano. It is located at the point where the borders of the provinces of Zambales, Tarlac and Pampanga meet. These provinces are located on the island of Luzon. Before 19991, Mount Pinatubo was a heavily eroded and inconspicuous mountain which was covered by a thick forest. It was home to a population of several thousand people belonging to an indigenous community called the Aeta community. This community fled to the mountainous regions from the lowlands in 1565, when the Spanish arrived in the Philippines and began their conquests of the islands.
Mount Pinatubo stands at an elevation of about 1, 486 feet or approximately 4, 875 feet. It is a stratovolcano, and the rocks it is composed of date back to 1.1 million years. It is located at a longitude of 15 degrees and 7.8 minutes to the north and at a latitude of 120 degrees and 21 minutes to the east.
