Plants are not just there to make our world look good, they actually serve several very important purposes to both the planet and the humans and creatures that live in it. These four purposes are: They supply oxygen, food, soil and beauty. Below is a further explanation of each of these four purposes.

  • Oxygen.
Plants and trees supply us with oxygen that we need to live and thrive. Humans and animals breathe in oxygen and breathe out carbon dioxide whereas plants do the complete opposite and take in carbon dioxide and release oxygen during the process of photosynthesis. Without plants, humans and other animal species would not be able to survive.

  • Food.
Pretty much everything that humans eat, apart from meat, is derived from some kind of plant. Plants can either produce food for humans and then be packaged and sold in some kind of supermarket or store or it can be home grown and directly produced. This is the simplest way for humans to acquire food as it has been seen throughout human history.

  • Soil.
Something called topsoil has gradually developed and formed over time by plant life decomposing and rotting. This topsoil also provides prime conditions for growing new plant life. This process is an essential contribution to the Earth's ecosystem.

  • Beauty.
Because we have evolved around trees as we have developed as a species, humans have a deep appreciation for the natural beauty of trees and plants. A lot of people just appreciate being outside and around them. The wonderful beauty of plants has been a central part of aesthetic traditions for a long time. Tree and plants are some of the only forms of natural beauty left in this world and as long as they are left untouched by humans or our refined culture, then future generations can appreciate their beauty as much as we have been able to.
