Depending on the break, it doesn't have to hurt at all. Obviously, if it breaks through the skin, it will be extremely painful. It may also be painful if the bones are out of alignment and the doctor has to pull on something to get them to line up. I fell off the top of a tall slide as a child and had a clean break below my shoulder. I never felt any pain whatsoever.

I don't know, but right now my index finger on my right hand is sprained, and at first that hurt. But now it is only swollen and tender. I've heard that it hurts to sprain a bone then break it. I don't know how much it hurts to break a bone because I have never done it. But from my friends, they've told me that it doesn't hurt at first (because your body sends out adrenaline) but after it hurts a lot.

It depends on your pain tolerance level but it hurts quite a bit. Some people will dislocate a finger at a joint and simple snap it back into place. If one has never done this before the first time is the worse but once they are familiar with the problem and the fix they become more immune to the shock of the incident.
