You have a choice of two. Thomas Alva Edison, a giant amongst inventors, and Joseph Swan. Swan probably got there first, but like a load of Brits, did not really take advantage of his breakthrough. He was successful in other ways though. You can still buy Swan cooking utensils and in the past there have been other Swan Electrical goods. (They can be said to have invented the electric kettle).
