What is solubility?

Solubility is the property of a solid, liquid, or gaseous chemical substance called solute to dissolve in a solid, liquid, or gaseous solvent to form a solution of the solute in the solvent.

What are some examples of solubility?

Salt is water-soluble, along with sugar. So is washing up liquid! Iron is an example of a metal that is soluble in hydrochloric acid.

Nitrates and most chlorides are soluble in water - have you noticed that most of the chemicals you use(d) in science class are nitrates or chlorides? That's why. You can make an insoluble salt by reacting two soluble salts together in a precipitation reaction.
