At the National Science and Technology Week 2014, the Philippines were described as "A Science Nation Meeting Global Challenges".

This seems like an accurate description for the country, which has put a great deal of time and energy into improving the field of science and technology, through the development of DOST (Department of Science and Technology).

DOST is the executive department of the Philippine government responsible for the coordination of science and technology projects.

Meanwhile, it is clear that the Philippines does indeed face a number of global challenges. These include poverty, budget deficits, high foreign debt, and an unstable economy. Unemployment is high. An impressive literacy rate counts for little if, as a nation, people are struggling to feed and house themselves and their families.

However, it is difficult not to be impressed by the progress the Philippines has made in science education so I would say the slogan "a science nation meeting global challenges" is very appropriate.
