What destroys microbes?

A good question. Domestic bleach kills the vast majority of microbes (but of course, used incorrectly, it kills people too).

Antibacterials, those things that typically occur in sterilizing hand washes etc. Are less effective, but less dangerous. (And some bacteria are developing resistance to the more-used ones).

Some microbes are astonishingly tough though. Deinococcus radiodurans, a polyextremophile is impervious to almost everything.
