How much does the way we speak affect the way people perceive us?

People are always judged on how they speak. If someone talks with slang or profanity that could be perceived as having a lack of education as well as ignorance for the language.

Some people are judged merely for having an accent while others are judged as uppity for using too many flowery words.

How we say things is often more important that what we say.

i just had a near disaster at work as one account influence another account with verbiage that was less that desirable.

After I spoke with them both an entirely different outcome was experienced on both ends.

Considering the person's ability to hear a certain way is key. I try to speak to the level of the listener. Was just speaking with a PHd yesterday about kids dying in S. Africa of aids (I have an orphanage there) and had to find a more simple way to speak to her level as her education gets in the way. Then spoke with a new employee at a very deep level even though he barely has a highschool education.

Always depends on the person and subject. Most board members are not good listeners for example. Their narcissism usurps their ability to hear in context.
