The oldest human remains I know of were found in Ethiopia. It is believed that these remains have filled a gap in the evolutionary timeline of mankind. The remains were much older than the common 400,000 year old skeletons of man that are commonly found.

Even more impressive was the 2.8 million year old jawbone found in Ethiopia which is either a human jawbone or a related species. In completely unrelated news, it has been discovered that Europeans/Caucasians and Asians are some of the only people on Earth that contain Neanderthal DNA.
