Hydrogen is a METAL. In its normal state it is a gas that is found under the metallic elements of the periodic table. Although it is lighter than all other elements, it is not a noble gas because it easily gives up its one and only electron to form other compounds such as hydrogen sulfide, hydrochloric acid and water. Hydrogen is the reason why water can easily conduct electricity. It is classified a metal because it can easily combine with other non-metal elements and conducts electricity.
