Usually, the slope of the demand curve is negative. The higher the price, the lower the quantity demanded.

If an item is perceived to be a status symbol, or if its quality is perceived to be related to its price, it is conceivable that its demand might increase as its price goes up. Such an item would have a demand curve with a positive slope over at least part of the range of price.
