High heel shoes are shoes that raise the heel higher than the toes of the person wearing the shoe. There are many different types of high heel shoes including the stiletto, the wide width, tapered, blade, blocked and wedge styles.

It is not really known who exactly invented the high heel, but these types of shoes can be traced back as far a 200 B.C. There is evidence of a platform sandal that existed in 200 B.C. These ancient shoes were called kothorni, and were very popular among Roman tragedy actors and actresses.

In the year 1154, King Henry II of England made the high heel shoe very popular by creating a platform shoe with pointed toes. People believed that he created these shoes to hide his ugly, deformed toes from the public.

So, it is not really sure who invented the high heel shoes, but they do have a history that can be traced back way to 200 B.C.

There are other sites to say that it is possible that leonardo devinci invented the concept of the high heel in the late 1600s. There has also been said the "ice man" was frozen in wht appeared to be shoes that fit the mold of the foot and that the cave man as well was found not 10 inches from waht appeared to be a shoe buried in the ground with grass in it. Fasinating!!

Hi when I first started reading I heard that high heels were invented for the chinese men because the were so short and did not like that they were the same height as women. So the men made shoes called high heels that make them look taller and at the time more stylish.
