All the organic compounds contain carbon atoms for example, glucose, methane, ethanol etc. Carbon dioxide contains carbon but carbon dioxide is not an organic compound. Organic compounds also contain hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen. The organic compounds which have only carbon and hydrogen atoms are called hydrocarbons. Some organic compounds also have phosphorous atoms. In organic compounds carbon atoms are combined with other atoms by covalent bonds.
