A blue flame is an indication of a clean flame, ie. Natural gas, as opposed to a candle, candle will be more yellow and hotter as it is burning a solid substance. You can tell a star is cooling when it is blue. Red to yellow is hotter and more is being burnt. That is why a bright star is much more visible and gives off more heat than a blue star. Blue star is running out of gases and particlles to burn
