Charles Darwin is a famous scientist of all times, who is best known for his evolution theory. He was born in Shrewsbury, Shropshire, England on 12 February, 1809. He was the grandson of Erasmus Darwin and Josiah Wedgewood.
For most of his life Darwin was engrossed in his studies and theories. He had little time for rest or marriage for that matter. It was not until he was diagnosed with serious illness that he decided to take some time off and meet some relatives. In this process he met his cousin Emma Wedgewood and was deeply impressed by her sweet and charismatic personality. They got married on 29 January 1839 at Maer.
Together they had ten children. Two of whom died at a very early age. The ones who survived were:
- William Darwin
- Anne Darwin
- Henrietta Darwin
- George Darwin
- Elizabeth Darwin
- Francis Darwin
- Leonard Darwin
- Horace Darwin
