A solution is a homogeneous mixture of two or more kinds of different molecular or ionic substances. Solvent is a component of the solution. The substance which is present in large quantity in a solution is called a solvent. The other substance present in a small quantity is called a solute. In other words, solute is dissolved in a solvent to form a solution. For a given solution, the amount of solute dissolved in a unit volume of solution (or a unit amount of solvent) is termed as the concentration of the solution. Solution containing relatively lower concentration of solute are called dilute solutions, whereas those containing relatively higher concentration of solutes are called concentrated solutions.
