England's largest lake is Lake Windermere, contained in the Lake District National Park in Cumbria. It is ten and a half miles long and has a surface area of 5.69 miles. Interestingly- its name originates from the Scandinavian for 'lake of a man called Vinadr'.
Although Lake Windermere is the largest natural lake, Kielder Water in Northumberland is a larger body of water, although it is an artificial reservoir. Construction began in 1975 and was completed in 1981. The surface area of the reservoir is 10.86 miles.
A final body of water to note is the River Thames, which is the longest river in England, stretching for 215 miles. It is famous for flowing through London, but it's source is the Thames Head in Gloucestershire and mouth the Thames Estuary in Southend-on-Sea, Essex.
The longest canal is the Leeds to Liverpool canal, which is 142.6 miles long.
