Important for psychologists to having an understanding of the structure of the nervous system because:
A) It will help them to have a better understanding of the effects
of certain types of brain damage. Help them to treat head trauma and
stroke patients.
B) Will enhance their ability to understand the latest findings
reported in scientific journals and be able to apply the findings
clinically.
C) Clearly distinct structural regions of the brain provide the
possibility to validate and elaborate on various psychological
categories.  e.g. Hippo-campus validates the notion of 'memory
consolidation' as being distinct from recall.

Neural conduction:
A)  Provides insight into various neurological disorders for the clinician.
B)  Give insight to clinicians with patients dealing with paraplegic conditions.
C)  For the academic cognitive and perceptual psychologist provides
important insights into sensory processing speeds and reaction
times.  Maybe important experimentally or even theoretically.

Synaptic transmission:
A) Provide a deeper understanding of the effects of prescribed psychiatric drugs on psych patients.
B) Provides a deeper understanding of how common drugs, diet, exercise might effect a person's mental state.
C) Provides insight to the academic psychologist on the complexity
of neural processing that occurs in the brain.  The incredible array of
inputs that modulate neuronal functioning at the synapse reveals how
the brain can mediate the complex processes of the mind.

Hope this was helpful.
