Only one state in the United States of America is bigger than Nigeria and that is Alaska. However, Nigeria itself is made up of 36 states so it is perhaps unfair to seek such a comparison.
Nigeria
Nigeria is a federal republic in West Africa and is bordered by the republic of Benin to the west, Chad and Cameroon to the east and Niger to the north. It is reported to have a total area of some 356,667 sq miles (923,768 sq km's).

Nigeria took its name from the river Niger which runs through it. With a population over 155m it is described as the seventh most populous country in the world. Nigeria has one of the fastest growing economies in the world and it has been predicted it could grow by 8 per cent this year.
Alaska

Meanwhile Alaska has a relatively small population at just 710,231 (2010) people, spread over 656,424 sq miles (1,700,135 sq km's).

Alaska is 425 times bigger than the smallest American state of Rhode Island. Yet it is much less densely populated. In fact, it is the least densely populated of all the American states. Half of its population live in the Anchorage area. Situated in the far north west of North America it shares a border with Canada, the Artic and the Pacific Ocean.

Alaska became the 49th state of the US on January 3rd, 1959. Initially it was bought from the Russian Empire in 1867.
Texas

The second largest state in the United States of America is said to be Texas but at 268,601 sq miles it is significantly smaller than Nigeria.
