A social group is any group in the society that has the same interests or motives. E.g a family is a social group. The head of the family is the leader and his status in the family gives him this authorty automatically. On the other hand formal groups are formed due to job or any other official requirements and the leader is either appointed or a resourceful person takes this responsibility himself.
