Light travels in a straight line because of an opaque object. The shadow that it makes is in a straight line. Also if you have ever played flashlight tag, you would see that the light only goes in a straight line, not a curvy swurvy line. To see how this works, take something solid and put a flash light and shine it on it, and see how the light reacts. Very cool, eh? (:
