Well totally depends on the sponge. If it's a smaller one (maybe about the size of your hand) then it might take in up to 1/10 of a gallon. If it's a larger sponge (maybe twice the size of your hand) then it might take in up to 2/10 of a gallon. I didn't test it out, this is just an estimate.
