The interaction of living organisms with their environment is studied under Environmental Ecology which is considered to be disciple of Biology.  The living organisms basically depend on their environment and its conditions in order to survive. If these conditions are not favorable, the living things wont be able to survive.

The functions that take place within the organisms depend on the environmental factors the most important of which are the natural ones. The natural environment includes factors like sunlight, habitat, geology, climate and ecosystem.

All living things interact with their environment by adapting to it and thus they try to get the resources that they need from the environment. For example, arctic plants and animals are completely different from those in other areas. This is their way of interaction with the environment and adapting to it to get their share of the resources. These resources may include space, light, food and many others.
