When bleach and ammonia are mixed together, chlorine is produce. Below is the chemical reaction
2(parts)NaOCl + 2NH3 --> 2NaONH3 + Cl2.
This combination was 1st used as a chemical weapon in world war 1 then in world war 2 by the Nazis. This combination affects the longs of human and cause several damages to the internal organs. Therefore, pls you are adviced never to make this combination. Note: Do not mix bleach with other household cleaning solutions, with vinegar or other acids, or with urine.

Whenever you mix ammonia and bleach it makes mustard gas. It was first discovered and used in WWI by the Germans. The skin of victims of mustard gas blistered, the eyes became very sore and they began to vomit. Mustard gas caused internal and external bleeding and attacked the bronchial tubes, stripping off the mucous membrane. This was extremely painful and most soldiers had to be strapped to their beds. It usually takes a fully grown adult four or five weeks to die of mustard gas poisoning, but it would only be take only a couple hours or minutes to kill small game.

Bad thing to do! Please do not do that, it makes a gas that can and will kill you.

Actually, everyone needs to know this, including children. Otherwise it can be VERY easy to do by accident. Got a bucket of unknown cleaner (clorox for example) and you pour something else in (amonia) and you have a real problem on your hands. I read a story online about someone who poured clorox on cat pee to clean it up an poof, chlorine gas! This person was fortunate to have evacuated the room before being harmed. Teaching kids not to mix chemicals is no different than teaching them not to stick butter knives in wall outlets, not to cross a road without looking or not to touch a hot stove or play with matches.

Actually, if the mixture is about 50/50, it will make Chloramine Gas, not mustard gass. Same basic effect on the respiratory system, but it won't cause blistering on the skin. It can still kill you though, so that difference is moot. If their is more Bleach present, Nitrogen Trichloride is the result. Very toxic, and very unstable (EXPLOSIVE). If more amonia is mixed, then Hydrazine is the result. Hydrazine is also highly toxic and unstable. It is one compound used in rocket fuel. It goes without saying that this combo is also explosive.

Yeah, I think this question should stay here so kids will learn. My brother almost passed out, because there was clorox in the toilet, and he didn't know. Well, he went to use the bathroom... Luckily he ran out of the bathroom in time.

It is a idea that will leave you with like 80 percent chance to die if you do try you only chance of living is if you somehow get lucky and theres a layer of fresh air close by, bleach consists of if I remember right chlorine gas which is stable as long as theres the other atoms sodium carbon and a couple others however when mixed with ammonia which consists of nh2 Nitrogen 1 atom and hydrogen 2 it will force the chlorine gas out of the liquid because chlorine gas now only consists of  7 electron per atom now not with the bleach it will do anything to get that electron even take your own it will probably start taking your oxygen and then rip up your cells in you lungs you go unconscious in about a minute its a overwhelming feeling to have your body ripped apart from the inside this gas is also called c12 however there are different ways to mix it that will ultimately be just as bad.

All of those previous answers are correct, and as for "proof reading" and editing, screw that, if someone is too stupid to heed warnings and/or not take safety precautions, they deserve what they get, less stupidity in the world.

As for the history lesson, we fought the Germans, not the Nazi's in WWI, the Nazi's were a political party who took power, and went psycho on the world. ;)
