Area code is defined as a code for the area where a container is located. It is a number that comprises three digits. These three digits are usually used to identify the geographic area of a switch. This switch provides services for telephone devices in the United States of America and Canada. An area code refers to the first three digits of a telephone number in the Numbering Plan of North America. It is the code which enables telephone users to dial the telephone numbers of other telephone users located at a distance from themselves.

A telephone numbering plan is a system that allows the users of telephones to make calls to places located at long distances. In mainland China, the Chinese Telephone Code Plan is used to group telephone numbers. When dialling a number from within mainland China, a zero is added in front of the number, but the zero is not necessary if the number is dialled from outside the mainland. Large cities in mainland China have eight-digit telephone numbers, but in other areas the numbers may have seven digits or less.
