A wave is a form of energy therefore, it travels through matter in the form of packets of energy. Examples of waves include light, heat and sound waves. Matter from where the waves travel is known as a medium such as if waves travel through ocean then water is the medium. When a wave passes through a matter medium in the form of packets of energy then its size or shape do not change. In this way waves travel through matter.
