How did people wake up before the alarm clock was invented?

They were used to wake up normally no like now with an alarm clock and a gallon of coffee, they used to sleep when the night falls because there was no electricity, and wake up when the sun rises, 1st because they slept well, 2nd because they got used to wake up this early...

They just wake up like normal, most probably they don't stay up so late like we use to normally. They don't have luxuries like coffee to keep them awake, or a nice bed to sleep on.
