The capitate bone is found in the human hand. It is biggest bone among the carpal bones. The capitate bone is situated right in the middle of the human wrist. Its name capitate is basically derived from the Latin word capitatus which means 'having a head', which in turn is derived from the word 'capit' which means 'head'.

Interestingly the capitate bone is nicknamed Darth Vader. Darth Vader is of course, the name of Anakin Skywalker the Jedi who goes over to the Sith and later turns in to Darth Vader in the immensely popular Star Wars Series. It is not a very obvious nickname for a human bone, but is said to have been given because of the similarity between the capitate bone and the Star Wars villain.

It all depends on which doctor you are talking too, but I have a cystic leison/ or plain cyst, or tumor growing INSIDE of my capitate bone in my right wrist. After an MRI, Cat scan, Bone scan and numerous x-rays the only thing that at least seven different doctors agree on is that it is very rare. The only doctor that I would have trusted to do the surgery would not do it because of his inexperience in that field. Does anyone have any information on this and can it become cancer? Thank you for any information.

I just found out that I have the same thing in my capitate bone and lunate bone. The doctor I see was going to do surgery but then decided to go with steroid injections to see if that helps. I would rather have the surgery to fix the problem since it is causing such intense pain when it flares up. I too am worried about it becoming cancer. I have had one injection and it does not seem to be doing any good.
