Digital communications are sometimes referred to as digital transmissions or data transmissions. They are the transfer of information from one point to another or from one point to multiple other points. The information travels along various channels.
These may be copper wires, optical fibres, electromagnetic signals, electrical voltage, radio waves, microwaves or infrared signals.

Digital communication delivers a number of important advantages over analogue communication. These include, but are not limited to: Affordability, reliability, ease of manipulation, flexibility, compatibility with other digital systems, robustness (i.e. It won't degrade), ability to integrate with other networks / systems.
The applications of digital communications include: TV broadcasting, the internet, the mobile phone network, radio broadcasting etc.
