Well, a team of people who are all well-knowledged in anything science-related, specially Biology, would make a great collaboration towards developing progress in what we know of science so far.

Research facilities occupy MANY medical scientists so they could team up together to find the cure to some disease. Although, they're not all working in the same position. One scientist might make a hypothesis about combining two certain chemicals, another might test that hypothesis, a third would most likely take notes on it and make sure everybody knows of the outcome.

Collaboration - the action of working with someone to produce or create something. That's what these scientists/biologists are doing. Collaboration is necessary to speed up scientific progress.
