A piece of nutrition is sensed by the amoeba and the amoeba extends two pseudopodia to surround the food and the extended pseudopodia unite around the food. Counterintuitively here the amoeba does not pull the food to the body but abulates to the food for ingestion.

Simplified explanation of the phenomenom.
