In June 1893 the orchid world was alerted to the arrival of a new hybrid –Vanda Miss Joaquim...Agnes, the eldest daughter of Armenians Parsick and Maria Joaquim, was born in Singapore on 7 April 1854. Parsick was a well-established merchant who was interested in flowers and plants, sitting on the committee of the Agri-Horticultural Gardens and on the Board of the Singapore Botanic Gardens.
