A high proportion of Tunisia's income as a country comes from summer tourism. Will today's attack in Tunisia cause such damage that the country's economy fails, thus delivering another country into the hands of ISIL?

That's highly possible ! It's sure going to cripple their economy!

There are two parts to your question.

Yes, the attack will certainly inhibit tourism for a while. In 2002 Islamic terrorists killed 202 people in a bomb attack in Bali and tourism struggled for a year or two. But it wasn't long before Bali was once again a hot tourist destination. The same thing is likely to happen in Tunisia. Their economy will be hit very hard but tourism will filter back fairly quickly. (George Orwell once stated that there is no similarity between a sheep standing on its hind legs and a man, but a flock of sheep standing on their hind legs and a crowd of men are identical. So it is with tourists.)

But would that necessarily deliver Tunisia into the tender mercies of ISIL/ISIS/Daesh? Maybe. An economy haemorrhaging money would be as attractive to them as blood would be to a shark. It's an unpleasant thought and I hope it doesn't prove to be so.
