Speed walking also known as race walking is an Olympic sport. It is done on a distance of 20m for both men and women and 50m for men only. In terms of fitness, race walking is supposed to have exceeded the caloric requirements of running as it involves a stronger arm motion and requires less efficiency than running. It has been distinguished from running in terms of the biomechanics of movement. The speed of the race walkers is achieved by pushing the leg in forward direction hamstring and the gluteus as the main muscles. Runners achieve their speed by lifting their legs from the ground.
