As of 2012, Surrey is the richest county in England and the UK, and is located in the South East of the country. Surrey borders Greater London, Kent, Hampshire, East Sussex, Berkshire and West Sussex.

The UK's and England's richest county
Surrey has the highest GDP per capita of any county in England and the UK; the highest living costs outside of London, and the highest proportion of millionaires in the UK. The county is the home to wealthy financial service workers and multi millionaire musicians such as Ringo Starr.

It should also be noted that because Surrey is the wealthiest county, it receives the smallest government grant per head.

The county is home to more company headquarters than any other county in England - including household names such as:

  • Nikon
  • Whirlpool
  • Canon
  • Toshiba
  • Samsung
  • Phillips
  • Kia Motors
  • Toyota
  • Esso
  • Nestle
  • Unilever
  • Colgate-Palmolive

Surrey
Surrey is a home county (i.e. It encircles London), and it has an estimated population of over one million people.

The county is divided into 11 districts and boroughs and 11 parliamentary constituencies, for which the Conservative party hold all the seats. Guildford is the county town of Surrey, but Woking has the largest population - with approximately 90,000 inhabitants while Guildford has only 67,000.
