Unfortunately, we do not know specifically what person discovered the element mercury, but it is know that the ancient Chinese were aware of the element, so it has been known quite awhile.
No one really knows but many ancient cultures and religions are aware of it such as the Chinese and the Egyptians.
Noone knows it is a unknown question because of the time it was discovered no record shown
The ancient Chinese and Hindus were the first but the egyptians were also aware of it. Mercury was found in the tomb of Kurna, a pharaoh, in small glass container.
