There are literally dozens of different types of metals which makes it difficult to list them all. Pure metals are listed in the periodic table of elements but there are lots of further types of metals which consist of combining together more than one metal.

  • Variety

Metals vary in type from the highly sought after and expensive metals such as gold and platinum through to the common types used in industry such as aluminum and copper. Metals are divided up based on different properties that they have with the more robust metals also highly valued due to their uses in construction.

  • Most common

The most commonly found metal in the earth's crust is aluminum which is used widely throughout industry since it is robust yet easily manipulated. Aluminum can be used in food packaging, vehicle manufacturing, window frames and household items such as irons which aren't strictly made of iron.

Copper is another widely used metal featuring in coins and cables and extensively throughout building in areas such as plumbing and switches. Tin can be found in many guises since it is easily shaped and is very stable.

  • Rarest

Gold, silver and platinum are the rarest of metals which makes them the most valuable. These metals are rarely found in their purest forms and tend to be used with other metals such as tin. The value of a piece of jewelery will be dependent on the proportion that is made out of the more precious metal.

  • Overall

Metals are one of the most popular and sought after commodities in the world and are openly traded on every continent with the prices listed in newspapers. This allows businesses to compare pricing in different markets and allows them to value their current stock holding.
