A pump basically is an appliance generally applied to transport liquids or slurries. A pump transports liquids from lower pressure to higher pressure, by accumulating pressure to it.

A gas pump is usually known as a compressor, apart from extreme low pressures-rise applications, like heating, ventilating and air conditioning. The initial pump was explained by Archimedes during the 3rd century BC, it well known as the Archimedes screw pump. The different types of pumps are Rotodynamic pumps and Positive displacement pumps.

Pumps are generally applied in all aspects of society for various different purposes. The pumps were initially used in windmills and watermills to pump water. Over the period of years pumps were used for irrigation purpose, water supply, gasoline supply, in air conditioning systems, refrigeration, chemical movement, sewage movement, flood control etc.
