"Settled hunting and fishing communities may have appeared in the Nubia around 600bc. Unlike the communities of the Fertile Crescent that settled after taking up agriculture, the Nubians formed settlements before they began to farm. Settled farming communities began to appear in both Egypt and Nubia sometime around 5000bc. As these communities grew, trade also expanded."
