Sinkhole is a depression or a hole on the surface of the ground. It usually causes the surface material to move to the subsurface, which are causes by weathering processes. The common causes for the creation of a sink are many. It can happen when the water levels decline. This could happen due to groundwater pumping, drought etc. In some areas, they are caused due to the disturbance of soil through digging, soil removal etc. concentration of water flow caused by building storm water drains and swales lead to creation of sinkholes. Other reasons which cause sinkholes include vibration due to traffic, blasting etc, Water impoundments like basin, ponds etc and things like water leaking and injections.
