A kilogram is a fundamental unit of mass in the metric system. 1 kilogram=1000 grams. One kilogram of mass is marginally more than 2 pounds. To be specific; 1 kilogram=2.2046 pounds. When the metric system came into effect in earlier times, one kilogram was equivalent of 1000 cubic centimetres of pure water. A kilogram is the traditional system of measures and weights in the US. As per the 'Imperial System' of measures, one kilogram is equal to an estimated 2.205 avoirdupois pounds. The kilogram is the only SI base unit that makes use of a prefix. The short form of kilogram is kg.
