The basic purpose of a Telephone is essentially Communication. It is a device that makes it possible for two people who are at geographically diverse locations to converse with each other by transmitting and receiving digital form of sound.

Telephones have become one of the most widely used devices all around the world. According to estimates, around 1.27 billion people of the world were using telephones (landlines) in the world (2006 estimate). 2.68 billion people were using mobile phones.

The basic development towards invention of a telephone was the idea of a telegraph that could speak. This idea was presented by Innocenzo Manzetti in the year 1844. However, it was not until the 14 February 1876 that Alexander Graham Bell came up with the modern day telephone. And a few days later he was able to actually transmit his voice through his apparatus.
