Rome is located between 41°54' North Latitude and 12°27' East Longitude. It is currently the Capital of Italy and one of the most beautiful cities in the World. Its beginnings are shrouded in Legend; the Legend of the she wolf who fed the brothers Romulous and Remus. It was the centre of political power for centuries after the Greeks lost theirs. Militarily the Roman Legions with their broad shields and short swords replaced the rounded shield and long spear of the Greek Phalanx. Rome became the centre of a civilization which controlled most of North Africa, southern Europe and the western Middle East. The Empire later disintegrated into eastern and western halves where Rome remained the Capital of the Western Roman Empire. The Coliseum in Rome is one of the wonders of the ancient world.
