White gold is more expensive than traditional gold, also known as yellow gold. The reason for this is that white gold is a mix of yellow gold, and silver. Some yellow gold that is found in jeweler's shops is actually a mixture of copper and silver.
As well as white gold, there are also a number of other colors of gold that are available on the market, and these are made by mixing different metals with the traditional gold.
• Gold (yellow gold)
Pure gold is classed as 24 karat, and there are a number of variants to this available on the market. 22 karat gold is 92% gold, whilst 18 karat gold is 75% gold. 58% gold is known as 14 karat gold, and 9 karat gold is 38% gold.
The gold is mixed with alloys to make the product different in appearance, this also has an effect on the price, and the cheapest form of gold is 9 karat gold. This may also explain why this is the most common form of gold sold in jewelers.
