Guyana formally known as the Co-operative Republic of Guyana basically is the solitary nation of the Commonwealth of Nations positioned on the mainland of South America.

Guyana shares its borders with Suriname towards the east, with Brazil towards the south and southwest and with Venezuela towards the west. Guyana simply means the "Land of many waters" according to the Amerindian language. Though Guyana is a section of the South American region, it has more of the Anglo culture in place of the Latin culture and has quite a few cultural similarities to the West Indies.

According to the census conducted in the year 2002, the total population of this country was 751,223, having an average population density of 9.1 per square mile. The census report of 2002 also stated that the total area of this region was 83,000 square miles.
