Holland is often wrongly taken to be the Netherlands. It is a region which is located in the central-western part of the Netherlands. It has a total population of 6.07million and an area of 5,488 km2 .

North Holland is known in Dutch as Noord-Holland. It covers a total area of approximately 2, 670 square kilometres. It is the sixth-largest province of the Netherlands. According to the   population census, in the year 2006, the population of North Holland was estimated to be approximately 2, 606, 584.

South Holland, on the other hand, is known in Dutch as Zuid-Holland. It covers a total area of approximately 2, 818 square kilometres. It is the fifth-largest province of the Netherlands. According to the population census   , in the year 2006, the population of South Holland was estimated to be approximately 3, 458, 875.

Akshay Kalbag you are wrong. Holland is the same as the Netherlands.  Both names have the same meaning and yes, we have a Zuid Holland and a Noord Holland as provinces.  People refer to the Netherlands as Holland too.
