If your measuring instrument (or vehicle) is not calibrated, you have no idea what it is measuring. Using an uncalibrated instrument is a good way to waste a lot of time and collect worthless data.

Most people are interested in good data. Instrument calibration and good experiment design are important conditions that must be met before the data collected is usable for any purpose.
